The Upside-Down World of Yoyo Nasty x Quinta Maso
Quinta Maso partners with artist and scarf-enthusiast Yoyo Nasty for an exclusive collaboration. On November 26th, Quinta Maso presents their first-ever collaboration: a limited edition scarf, titled
“Howdy Mermaid!”, with Swedish artist and illustrator Yoyo Nasty.
Yoyo Nasty’s playful world comes out of the canvas and onto a silk scarf for this special edition, a unique opportunity to experience her art beyond gallery walls. The design explores collage as a method and uses high contrasting colors like black and hot pink, and is digitally printed in 100% Italian crêpe-de-chine silk, contained in one of Quinta Maso’s iconic cobalt blue boxes, with a twist: each box has been individually hand-painted by the artist using one of the design’s main motifs.
“Working with collage is one of my favourite methods of making.” Says Yoyo Nasty about the artwork. “It’s a playful and intuitive process that opens up so many possibilities. The artwork is full of little stories, through the various added elements. I imagine the characters playing together and interacting with each other in some way. The scarf presents a joyous world
where anything is possible, even upside-down, a mermaid chasing an egg and wearing a frog as a hat. Dolphins swimming around in pink fluffy waves.”
“Something I love about this collaboration is that this makes my work more accessible. This is a chance for people who aren’t collectors to invest in an exclusive art piece, through a Quinta Maso scarf!” Yoyo smiles. “The scarf is one of my most important accessories. It has been a staple in my wardrobe for years, something I love to collect. I honestly feel like an outfit isn’t complete without it.”
Yoyo Nasty has gained recognition for her colorful paintings of dreamy botanics and playful characters. Inspired by the rhythmic power and movement of nature, she creates surreal landscapes that are full of life and imagination. The anthropomorphism of animals and mystical characters is a signature theme within her practice. Cheeky tigers sticking out their tongues, playful mermaids and free-spirited cowboys can all be found in her works.
The use of fashion elements such as the cowboy hat, high heels and pink underwear presents an exploration of identity through relatable, personal characters. Full of personality and confidence, these dancing figures express love, freedom and feminine power.
“As a new brand, it was important for us to choose our first collaborator wisely. Someone that lived and breathed the humorous, colorful soul of our brand and that truly loved scarves as much as we do. It was an instant connection with Yoyo, whom we’ve had on our radar first for her incredible art, and second for her inspiring use of accessories. We particularly love “the Yoyos”, fantastic genderless creatures that exist in her universe, and now ours! It was a dream to create this weird and wonderful design, full of curious details that we’re eager for our fans to discover for themselves” says Paula Maso, founder and Creative Director of Quinta Maso.
